Diageo’s Cocktails from Around the World Happy Hour

As with 2010, Diageo pulled off a very cool concept for their Tales of the Cocktail happy hour in the Cabildo. In three floors of cocktail stations, we wandered the flavors of the world.
Each hall represented a part of the world, with cocktails showing off particular flavors of that region. The first floor started with South Africa, and as we wound through the rooms we proceeded through Oceania, and on. It was there we saw several of our NW friends, including Ricky Gomez, Jim Romdall, and Tommy Klus, behind the stick. We then proceeded to the Americas, the Carribean, and onward, tasting our way through the world.
Personal favorites were an awesome spicy pepper puree and dried chiles combined with Don Juilio tequila by Kevin Vanegas, a fantastic cocktail on the bustling second level.
Another favorite was by the always smiling, always engaging Ian Burrell, who came up with a very interesting combination of Ron Zacapa rum, Tanqueray, and tea!
As we proceeded through the Cabildo, we got our passports stamped at each stop. It was a whirlwind tour through the world, but great fun, as the ever present smiles suggest.
Hope to see you guys at the 2012 Tales of the Cocktail this year – Kevin Vanegas
