Michael Collins’ Irish Whiskey Revolution Party

After having been teased with an initial taste one morning at the 2010 Tales of the Cocktail, recently we were finally able to enjoy the new Michael Collins 10 Year Old Single Malt, as well as the newly (and now reasonably) packaged Michael Collins Blended Whiskey on their own, and in several very fine cocktails. We’ll be reviewing the whiskeys on their own very soon, but I did want to call out Portland bartenders Sean Hoard and Daniel Shoemaker, both of Teardrop Cocktail Lounge, for two of the best cocktails on the event menu:

The Book of Kells, by Sean Hoard

2 oz. Michael Collins 10 Year Old Single Malt
¾ oz. Amaro Nonino
½ oz. Dry Dolin Vermouth
2 dashes Reagan’s bitters #6
rinse of absinthe.

1. Rinse a chilled rocks glass with absinthe to lightly coat.
2. Combine remaining ingredients in a mixing glass and stir
3. Strain into rinsed cocktail glass.
4. Garnish with lemon oils and peel.

Growing Pains, by Daniel Shoemaker

1 oz. Michael Collins Blended Irish Whiskey
1 oz. Yamazaki 12 Year Old Whisky
½ oz. Fresh Meyer Lemon Juice
½ oz. Orgeat Syrup

1. Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and stir
2. Strain into chilled cocktail glass.
3. Garnish with Meyer lemon oils and peel.
