A Classic Lemon Drop

While walking through Portland today, I suddenly felt little raindrops tickling my lips. “Naughty raindrops,” I thought as I licked them away, “it’s about time I replaced you with a classic lemon drop.”

One of my favorite lemon drop recipes is a gentle modification of Lucy Brennan’s recipe in Hip Sips. This version replaces the simple syrup with a shot of lemoncello.

Lemoncello Lemon Droplemondrop

  • 2 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1/4 oz Cointreau
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz lemoncello

Create a lollipop rim by running a sliced lemon around the top of the martini glass; then twist into granulated sugar, or superfine caster sugar for a silky smooth rim. Shake cocktail ingredients with ice. Strain into glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon.

Oh, how lovely! It’s as if the gray rainclouds above me are evaporating before my eyes as the liquid sunshine in my glass begins to take their place.
